Maarij is a Barrister (unregistered), having recently completed the Bar course with an "overall Outstanding". Her legal journey began in 2017 when she started LLB Honours Degree with the University of London, and secured multiple distinctions, including a World Distinction in Commercial Law. She then went on to complete the Bar Training course and Masters in law.
Prior to joining SAJ Legal Solicitors, Maarij worked at the Office of the Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan and several reputable international law firms. Maarij also taught Jurisprudence and Legal theory in a reputable law school. Maarij has received a number of awards and honours including the "Academic Excellence Award" from the University of London and "Achievement Award" from Women Lawyers Forum, Pakistan.
Maarij regularly attends professional development training and has participated in advocacy programs with the Western Circuit, the United States Department of Justice, and the University of Pennsylvania. An accomplished mooter and Model UN participant, she now adjudicates competitions including the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Competition. Maarij is also a social activist who writes for national newspapers in Pakistan and speaks publicly on social issues.
At S A J Legal Solicitors, Maarij deals with litigation matters pertaining to different areas of legal practice, including but not limited to public, administrative, property and commercial law. Maarij's sharp understanding and in-depth knowledge of civil procedure rules, coupled with her high intellect enables her to thoroughly analyse and deal with complex High Court and Court of Appeal matters.
Maarij deals with a wide range of public and administrative law litigation matters at SAJ Legal Solicitors. She regularly deals with claims for maladministration and damages against the Government and has successfully obtained relief for her clients either through settlement or through court proceedings.
Maarij regularly deals with Breach of contract claims involving Business to Business and Business to Consumer contracts.
Maarij also undertakes claims for compensation, and has recently worked on a number of compensation claims against airlines for flight delays and/or lost/delayed baggage. Many of these cases were concluded following extensive litigation.
Maarij deals with a broad range of property law matters involving landlord and tenants rights and covenants, both under long term and short term leases, forfeiture proceedings and property insurance matters.
