On 11 April 2022, the UK Government prioritized overseas businesses by launching the Global Business Mobility visa. This scheme introduced several routes for international employers aiming to relocate senior or specialist employees to the UK to undertake qualified tasks at their UK branches.

Among the five categories introduced, this article focuses on the Graduate Trainee Visa, which replaces the Intra-Company Graduate Trainee visa.

What is the Graduate Trainee Visa?

The Graduate Trainee Visa enables companies to transfer employees to the UK as part of a graduate training program for a specialist or managerial role. It allows the candidate to gain professional experience in a structured career path.

Requirements for a Graduate Trainee Visa

  • The applicant must be currently employed with an overseas branch of the UK sponsor that is approved by the Home Office.
  • They must have worked for the sponsor outside the UK for at least 3 months before applying.
  • A valid Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) issued by the sponsor is mandatory.
  • The job must be genuine and listed on the eligible occupations list.
  • The applicant must receive a salary of at least £23,100 per year.
  • They must be able to support themselves in the UK without public funds.

Dependents: Can Your Partner and Child Join?

Yes. A dependent partner (aged 18+) and/or children under 18 can accompany the main applicant. Proof of relationship is required when applying.

Visa Duration

Once approved, the applicant can stay for either:

  • The time stated on the Certificate of Sponsorship plus 14 days
  • 12 months
  • Or until they reach the maximum period of 5 years in any 6-year period
